The "One Neighborhood" Practice Guide

Master your guitar neck in 30 minutes a day.

1. The Neighborhood Rule

The neck is divided into three Color Zones. Don't try to learn them all at once! Pick one zone and stay there for a full week.

  • Zone 1: Frets 1-4 (The Beginner Zone)
  • Zone 2: Frets 5-8 (The Pro Zone)
  • Zone 3: Frets 9-12 (The Solo Zone)

2. The Symbols

Diamonds:

Your "Home Base." If you get lost or the scale sounds messy, find a Diamond note to reset.

CAGED Shapes:

Standard "Master Shapes." Use the dropdown on your chord cards to pick the shape that fits your current Zone.

Roman Numerals:

The "DNA" of the song (I, IV, V). Master these to play your favorite songs in any key.

30-Minute Daily Routine

1

The Diamond Hunt (5 min)

Find every Diamond in your Color Zone. Play them until you can find them with your eyes closed.

2

The Storyboard (10 min)

Play the progression using CAGED shapes. Switch between chords slowly and cleanly.

3

The Wiggle (10 min)

Strum a chord, then play 2 or 3 scale notes from the same zone. This connects the scale to the music.

4

The Dark Test (5 min)

Close your eyes. Play the whole progression. If you can do it in the dark, you've mastered it.
